Workshop Speakers' Biographies
Colleen Mitchell, Atlantica Centre for Energy
Colleen Mitchell has spent her entire working career in sectors associated with energy transportation and infrastructure.
Colleen began her career with this region’s largest petroleum company, Irving Oil. She covered a cross section of positions in the company including: oil futures, refining, marine, rail and over-the-road transportation, bulk storage, information systems, strategic planning, human resources and public relations, among others.
In addition, as Vice President, Marketing and Communications at one of the region’s largest engineering firms, Colleen was responsible for domestic and international marketing programs for engineering projects in over 30 countries around the globe. Projects included energy recovery from waste, co-generation plants, power plant conversions, and environmental technologies.
Bringing this experience together, Colleen joined the Atlantica Centre for Energy as President, in a role that helps to foster the exchange of information and dialogue on energy opportunities and challenges. Energy literacy and education has become a priority of the organization. The Atlantica Centre for Energy works with partners to engage the public fake uhren and community leaders on energy topics.
In voluntary capacities, Colleen also serves on the Advisory Board to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of New Brunswick, and on the Editorial Board for Natural Resources Magazine.
David Alston, Chief Entrepreneur in Residence for NB Government
David Alston has volunteered as an innovator and entrepreneur with several initiatives, and has advised hundreds of start-ups in the Atlantic region and around the world. He has been a volunteer advisor for the provincial government’s Strategic Program Review and 10-year education plans. Alston was named Industry Champion at the 2015 KIRA Awards, and a Forbes top 50 CMO on social media. He was co-winner of a 2014 EY Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Atlantic Canada, a 2015 winner of Entrepreneur of the Year, and co-winner of Enterprise Promotion for the Atlantic Region from Startup Canada. Alston has sat on the boards of the United Way of Greater Saint John, Living SJ, and Brilliant Labs. He is a former CMO of Radian6 and former marketing cloud chief adoption officer for Salesforce.com. His appointment to the position of Chief Entrepreneur in Residence for NB Government was very noticeable. See Press Release
Marc-André Alary, president, Direcsys
Marc-André, a partner in Direcsys, has more than 20 years of experience helping companies achieve their goals.
Building on a strong foundation as a Certified Project Manager, Black Belt in Lean Sigma and Train the Trainer, Marc-André is passionate about helping business leaders improve their quality and productivity while eliminating waste within their business processes.
Diversity, depth and discipline are keywords that describe Marc-André’s background. He uses his enormous personal energy to generate contagious enthusiasm for change. He has applied Lean and Six Sigma methods to achieve improvements for custom and mass production environments in manufacturing and service industries.
Marc-André is accountable for client results and leads client teams in their deployment of continuous improvement best practices. As an experienced Train the Trainer, he has conducted strategic planning sessions to develop detailed deployment action plans.
Fluent in French and English, Marc-André has trained and coached hundreds of supervisors in managing for results skills. He has proven his ability to lead diverse multicultural teams to accomplish extraordinary results.
Marc-André holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance. He recently completed the Project Manager Certification from PMI, his Black Belt Six Sigma certification, with honours, from Breakthrough Management Group – a global leader in Six Sigma consulting, training and software support tools.
Michael D. Carr, B.Sc., Manager SJEMO, Platoon Chief SJDF, City of Saint John
Mike is the Manager of the Saint John Emergency Management Organization and a Division Chief with the Saint John Fire Department. This dual role position is the first time a first responder manages EMO in Saint John. This does present a different dynamic as the experience gained through the fire service adds a sense of realism when planning and training for emergencies.
After twenty years of service, Mike has had the opportunity to tap into his undergraduate degree from McGill University by participating in a host of emergency management programs as well as pursuing his Masters in Disaster and Emergency Management at Royal Roads University.
Some of the projects Mike has been working on include:
- Implementing the Incident Command System in Saint John
- Revamping Saint John’s Municipal Emergency Response Plan to align with the NBEMO Regional orologi replica italia model.
- Working on the Saint John Fire Department’s industrial initiatives by traveling coast to coast to observe the best practices in industry, and how they plan for success during an emergency.
Moving forward with technology and having the prospect to challenge the status quo has given inspiration to him and those involved in the organization.
Monique Gallie – Bien-être Gallie Wellness
Monique Gallie has trained numerous regional audiences, both in private and public sectors for many years. With over 15 years’ experience in the human resources field, Monique is known as having strategic abilities in aligning the organization’s human capital towards increased organizational effectiveness and productivity. Monique is known as an integrator – aligning people, systems and processes.
Her comprehensive human resources background includes training in Leadership, Teambuilding, Change Management, Employee Engagement and Relations, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, Communications and Personal Excellence.
Monique is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR), her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Counseling from l’Université de Moncton, as well as a Diploma in Negotiation, Mediation and Conflict Resolution. She is also certified in Choice Theory and Lead Management, Emotional Intelligence, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and more.
